Airmen from the 449th Air Expeditionary Group, alongside Army, Marine Corps, and Navy personnel, conducted readiness training at Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti during Exercise Pale Serpent from December 26 to 29, 2025. The exercise aimed to prepare forces for regional emergencies in East Africa by simulating operational scenarios.
The training included a series of parallel scenarios for different 449th units to test their mission capabilities in high-tempo environments. Air Force medical personnel practiced trauma care, aeromedical evacuation, and coordination with joint partners, ensuring they could operate effectively under realistic conditions.
At Chabelley Airfield, medical personnel from the 776th Expeditionary Air Base Squadron participated in hands-on exercises, treating simulated casualties and demonstrating readiness for real-world emergencies. Army evaluators observed and assessed their performance to provide feedback and identify areas for improvement.
Exercise Pale Serpent is part of U.S. Africa Command’s ongoing efforts to maintain responsive and capable forces in the region. By engaging in realistic training scenarios, the participating units enhanced their ability to deliver medical support, conduct evacuations, and coordinate joint operations efficiently.
The exercise reinforced the importance of multi-service collaboration and the ability of Airmen to adapt to complex situations. While the training concluded on December 29, 2025, ongoing assessments and follow-up exercises will continue to support the readiness of units across East Africa.
